SuperValu is part of the largest food and grocery distributor in Ireland, Musgrave Retail Partners, a firm founded in 1876. I’ts grown to become one of the largest privately owned companies in Ireland, and is still owned and run by the family. It currently employs more than a thousand people directly, and another fifteen thousand people work at franchises like Twohig’s Super Valu in Kanturk and Newmarket Co-Op SuperValu in Newmarket, County Cork and other locations throughout Ireland.
Super Valu stores are owned locally, making them a real part of their communities, but without having to deny those communities the benefits that come from a large chain of stores. Supervalu takes pride in its heritage, and wants to demonstrate that in a real way. That means making sure that seventy-five percent of the products stocked there are produced by Irish companies. When you take local distributors of foreign goods into account, about ninety percent of Super Valu’s goods from from Ireland or Irish companies.
This kind of philosophy means that shopping at SuperValu isn’t like shopping anywhere else. Recently, stores have been working on a campaign to reduce costs while keeping quality up. This “All We’ve Cut Is Our Prices” campaign is introducing long term, significant reductions on the brands and products that we all buy every day. What does that mean in real terms? At the 194 independently owned Super Valu stores across Ireland, the average weekly cost of a trolly of goods has gone down by 30 Euros a week, from nearly a hundred and thirty to less than a hundred. This is a reduction of twenty-three percent, and a real help to the average shopper. Plus, it’s all being done without sacrificing on SuperValu’s philosophy of commitment to Irish jobs and supplies. More than two thousand permanent price cuts have happened so far in stores this year, and more are on their way, allowing the average shopper to stretch his or her money just a little bit farther.
Take advantage of the weekly in store promotions, and there’s a chance to save even more. Some excellent deals are making it easier to shop for families, and using SuperValu’s own brand will offer even more savings.
